With their diverse yet complimentary skills, founders Byron Cooper and Mark Handy spearhead the company. We have created an amazing network of people in the trades that are essential to each of our projects. Everyone is on the same page, works well together, and has the common goal of true craftsmanship. Communication and teamwork is essential.

I grew up in Colorado Springs, and eventually found my current home in Simcoe County while pursuing my childhood goal of becoming a professional hockey player. Growing up I was blessed with a father that enjoyed home renovation projects. I am proud to say that all of the experience and knowledge I have earned over many years has led me to where I am now. Quality is my number one passion in every aspect of life.
Mark Handy
Principal/Project Development
Growing up as the son, brother and best friend of architects has ingrained the utmost respect for the design process and the art of buildings. I build because I never got over my love of Lego and the kinetic pleasure of creating. The pursuit of perfection drives me to excellence as well as to the humility of being human. When interviewing a contractor; check out the craftsmanship of the back of a closet they have built. "how you do anything is how you do everything".
Brad Catleugh
Carpenter
I'm a custom home carpenter with over a decade and a half of experience. Throughout the early years of my career working as a carpenter, I also worked as a freelance journalist traveling around the Middle East documenting the Syrian refugee crises in early 2012-14. Also traveling Asia, I made my way across India predominantly by local train. Balancing the passion to build and the passion to document through photography, I was able to observe unique architecture and how other cultures build. I've since then dedicated my life to understanding and mastering frame to finish completion of high end custom homes while providing the highest quality for unique builds.
Darryl Molander
Carpenter
My name is Darryl Molander, a skilled labourer working at Cooper Handy Custom Building. I was born and raised in Calgary, Alberta and decided to switch up the mountains for the lakes in Simcoe County. Formerly working for an award winning custom home builder, I now have the opportunity to self perform more of the work myself and broaden my skills as a builder.

Father, husband, friend. Builder, outdoorsman, lover of life. My aim is to live with an enduring sense of curiosity, gratitude, and appreciation for quality in all things. It’s been said: nothing’s hard if you have the right attitudes, it’s having the right attitudes that’s hard. Carpentry and home building prove to me the wisdom in this statement every day. Perhaps building quality homes on the leading edge of aesthetics, building science, and value is hard; but we can do hard things. I look forward to any opportunity to be of service.
